Will I be volunteering with other people?
Chances are, yes. Unless you have created a team that fills every slot available, there’s a good chance that others will be volunteering with you. If you are an individual and not forming a team, we recommend signing up for one of our weekend ”Signature Events” which will accommodate large numbers of volunteers and where you can meet others people volunteering on their own.

Can I reserve a project exclusively for my group?
Yes. Find a project you are interested in that does not yet have anyone signed up for it. Create a team to fill all, or most, available slots with members of your group. You can either enter the names and email addresses of everyone in your group to form the team or, if you don't have specific people confirmed yet, send us an email with the total number of volunteers you will have in your group. Either way, please email us at hosd@volunteersandiego.org to let us know that your group wants to reserve and will complete the project.

Can we change the time and date of the project?
If the project is filled exclusively with people from your group, this may be possible. Your email confirmation should provide the name and contact information of the project coordinator. Please contact them to discuss, but be sure to let us know about any changes or the wrong information will be sent to your group when automatic reminders are sent out. Email any changes to dkrakauer@volunteersandiego.org.

What if I am unable to attend the project I've signed up for?
As volunteers are usually participating as part of a large group, you may think you won’t be missed. When several people think that, the project is often left without the required number of people to get the job done. If you can’t make it, please go to “My Projects” in the Member Center and select “Remove Me” as soon as possible. By opening up your space at the project, you will give someone else the chance to attend and ensure that the project has the support it needs to be successfully completed.

Do I need to provide supplies?
All supplies should be provided for you. However, nonprofits often have very limited budgets and any contributions you can make towards securing supplies is always appreciated. Your email confirmation may outline any supplies that are needed and will provide the contact information of your project coordinator. If you are willing to help with supplies, contact the project coordinator to see what can be done to help.

Can children participate?
Absolutely! We believe that volunteering is a fun and meaningful way to spend quality time together as a family, while teaching children the importance of service to others. As a result, most Hands On San Diego projects are family friendly. For their safety and as a courtesy to other volunteers, we recommend that children are at least 5 years old. Many organizations have specified a minimum age for their volunteers, which you can confirm with the project coordinator. When signing up for projects, make sure that you include your children by selecting the “Create a New Team” or “Select one of my teams” option. If the project does have an age restriction, the system will prevent you from signing up anyone who does not meet the minimum age requirement.

Volunteers under the age of 18, whether accompanied by a legal guardian or not, must bring a signed Waiver of Liability to the project. Volunteers without this waiver will be turned away. Download Waiver

What if I have additional questions?
If you have already selected a project and have specific questions regarding that project, please contact the project coordinator – their contact information will have been provided in your confirmation email.

If you have more general questions about the event itself, please contact Linda Fisher, 858-636-4130, or Debbie Krakauer, 858-636-4184.
