Coaching/Project Support & Development
Our coaching program provides training wheels for
educators and nonprofit professionals who might find
service-learning a bit daunting. Our
California Department of Education Certified
Service-Learning Coaches/Trainers will support you through any
and all aspects of creating and implementing a
successful service-learning project.

With our coaching program, emphasis is on
sustainability. Clients learn from teaming up with
our experts, so even if we are facilitating a
leadership training for your students on team
communication, you are observing and gaining the
confidence and skills necessary to replicate our
work and lead a high-quality service-learning
program on your own.
Fees: For our coaching program, we charge $50-60
per hour depending on the service and associated
expense.
Please read through the summaries. If you are still

Service-Learning Curriculum Development
If
you’ve checked out our online
Curricula Hub
and can’t find what you were looking for, then
consider enlisting one of our coaches. Each coach
is a wealth of knowledge, a library of successful
lesson plans and proven project ideas. We will first
work with you to assess the learning and service
goals you are hoping to meet with your students. We
can then research relevant curricula and adapt them
as needed, or even help you design an original
service-learning lesson plan to meet the unique
needs of your classroom or program.
Teachers, have no fear; we make a point of linking
all service-learning lessons to California State
Standards. We can help with curriculum for grades
Pre-K - 12, and across all subjects, everything from
Earth Science and Math, to English Language and Fine
Arts.

Fundraising & Grant Writing for Service Projects
Wouldn’t it be great if your service-learning
project had the kind of funding it needed to be the
stellar undertaking you and the students know it to
be? But knowing the right grants to write, let
alone writing them, can be a difficult undertaking.
Volunteer San Diego’s service-learning coaches can
work with you to pinpoint the right grants and even
co-author your proposal. We have extensive
experience writing and managing successful youth
service grants, both large-scale and small. We
can also work with you and your students to find
creative fundraising solutions beyond the world of
grants. Whatever your need is, be it 10 cans
of paint for some murals or expensive technology for
a community elders oral history project, we can help
find the perfect funding opportunity for your
project.
For
the do-it-yourselfer, Volunteer San Diego manages an
up-to-date
Grants Page
with information and links for grants and awards
that support schools and organizations engaging
youth in service.

General Project
Support/Troubleshooting
Many adults and students hit speed bumps during the
planning process while implementing service and
service-learning projects. If, for example, you are
having difficulties motivating your students,
finding community partners or funding to support
your project, we are here to coach you through.
Whatever your challenge we are your helping hand,
trained, experienced and ready to get you and your
project back on track.

Community Volunteer/Partner Recruitment
With nearly 30,000 prospective volunteers connected
with service opportunities through Volunteer San
Diego each year, and over 800 community
organizations offering such opportunities
countywide, we are the go-to people for finding
volunteers and partner agencies for your
service-learning project. Students may want to
create a digital oral history project to document
the stories of their community elders, but cannot
find a place to host the interviews or video
production process. Maybe you’re planning a
disaster preparedness or environmental advocacy
service-learning project, but are having
difficulties reaching out to appropriate experts to
present to your class. Our coaches can help
you brainstorm, identify and reach out to the
perfect partners for your project.
