Volunteer San
Diego's Engaging Students in Service Training Series
Engaging Students in Service: An Introduction to
Service-Learning: (formerly Service-Learning
Introduction) For anyone
working with students or youth groups -- in the
classroom or after school -- this training will
teach you the essentials of integrating community
service with academic learning (and California state
standards) in three easy steps. In this training, we
will explore the 7 elements of successful
high-quality service-learning, demonstrate how to
integrate service-learning into your curriculum, and
provide a number of resources to support
service-learning in your classroom.
Engaging Students in Service: On-Site Projects &
Reflection: (formerly Service Learning In Focus) Ideal for
English, Social Studies, Math AND Science teachers
In this training, we will demonstrate how to infuse
environmental service and disaster preparedness
projects with academic learning across ALL subjects.
You will also practice simple and fun environmental
and disaster preparedness curriculum and review
examples of successful projects ideal for school
sites (no permission slips required). We will
end with a look at how reflection activities can
enhance learning for students with varying learning
styles.
Engaging Students in Service: Student Motivation and
Character Education: (formerly Service Learning
In Focus) Looking for tools to help
your students become invested in their own
education? In need of tips to create a respectful
and productive classroom free of the usual
interruptions? The classroom can be a place not
merely for intellectual development, but for
building student character and leadership too. This
training will teach you how to use service-learning
to make that dream a reality.
Engaging Students in Service: The Comprehensive
Service-Learning Training: (formerly
Service-Learning All-in-One Training) Get more bang for your buck!
We now offer an day-long service-learning discover
course. While the course is open to all educators,
employees of San Diego Unified School District
qualify for discover credit.
This hands-on training
is an “All-in-One.” You will receive our
introduction to service-learning, as well as
character education, on-site projects, student
motivation and reflection.
Tailored Trainings: Interested in a
specific service-learning theme or an ongoing,
on-site training series for your entire school
