Fire Recovery Volunteer Program
The 2007 Wildfires were one of the worst disasters in San Diego County's history. One year later, many urgent needs of fire survivors are still unmet, particularly among our most vulnerable citizens. Volunteer San Diego is working towards addressing these needs by enlisting individuals and organizations to help these survivors with the difficult process of recovery. With your support, it will be possible to help create homecomings and rebuild lives.
Activities Include:
Reducing fire risks for homes by providing brush management services to those fire survivors who are unable to do so themselves
Assisting rebuilding with projects that include light construction, painting and landscaping
The "It's Easy Being Green" program that promotes the economic and environmental value of rebuilding with fire-resistant, resource-efficient structures and landscaping
A Youth Leadership program that provides meaningful service-learning opportunities to young fire survivors and other students
Community outreach efforts that seek to promote awareness of disaster preparedness and fire safety
To volunteer:
Weed Whackin' Saturdays
Survivors of the 2007 Wildfires need your help! Volunteer San Diego is seeking community volunteers to help provide brush management services for fire survivors in need. With assistance from local fire recovery centers and partner organizations, teams of volunteers will be able to provide these services at no cost to fire survivors who are either senior citizens, physically unable, low-income, underinsured or challenged by special circumstances.
