(Formerly Service-Learning All-in-One Training) This hands-on training is an All-in-One. You will receive our introduction to service-learning, as well as two additional In Focus workshops exploring service-learning in the context of on-site projects and character education.
To introduce service-learning, we will:
explore the elements of successful community service-learning curricula and projects;
demonstrate how to integrate service to the community with academic learning for students ages 5 through 25;
practice utilizing easy-to-use curriculum and planned projects ideal for in school and afterschool settings;
orient you to Volunteer San Diego's hundreds of monthly volunteer opportunities available to you, your students and their families.
To focus on on-site environmental and disaster preparedness projects and reflection, we will:
explore elements of successful environmental service-learning projects;
demonstrate how to infuse environmental service projects with academic learning across all subjects;
practice easy-to-use environmental and disaster preparedness curriculum and review examples of planned projects ideal for school sites (no permission slips required); and finally
demonstrate reflection activities that enhance learning for students with varying learning styles.
To focus on character education and student motivation, we will:
explore the key elements of character education;
demonstrate how to use service-learning as a strategy for developing student character;
demonstrate how to integrate service to the community with academic learning in order to improve student motivation for learning;
practice easy-to-use project planning tools ideal for building character and motivating students; and
review examples of successful service-learning projects and curriculum that incorporate character education and youth voice.
You will also receive FREE resources, tools and on-going phone support after completion of this training.
There is a 15-minute online reading assignment which you should review before the training. It will introduce you to the most important concepts related to service-learning. The training activities will springboard from these concepts, so it is essential that you review them.

For all attendees there is a $50 fee to attend this training. Please bring your lunch. For an additional $10, lunch will be provided and delivered to the training. Registration is not complete until your payment is received. Please SEND YOUR PAYMENT** to:

Checks should be made payable to Volunteer San Diego. If you decide not to attend, reimbursements will be granted no later than 48 hours in advance of the training. After that, fees are nonrefundable due to copying and other administrative costs incurred.
